Veritas Preparatory Academy is committed to providing a well-rounded educational experience for all students, including the opportunity to participate in inter-varsity competitive forensics. Students are encouraged to become true student artists and orators those who recognize the power and responsibility of communication and strive for integrity and virtue in the classroom with the understanding that excellence in communication must always be grounded in a love of wisdom and a commitment to the pursuit of truth, beauty and goodness.
Forensics is public speaking in all its forms argumentation, rhetoric, and drama. The National Forensics League (NFL) and the Arizona Interscholastic Association (AIA) have established a tournament system in which High School students compete against each other both as teams and individuals in over fifteen different events representing the larger categories of Debate, Public Speaking and Drama. The VPA High School Forensics Team will attend as many as eighteen tournaments, from mid-September to mid-April. Typically team members will compete in an average of 10 tournaments per year.
The VPA Junior High Forensics Program is primarily development and will focus on introducing students to the basic skills necessary for public speaking and debate. Team members will compete in as many as one Inter-Great Hearts tournament and three VPA JHS competitions per semester.
